A Welcome Reception at the Convention Centre of the International Fair of Lisbon (FIL, Parque das Nações) will be offered to the registered participants on the Conference opening day (Tuesday, 12 October, 2010, 18h30min) in a more relaxing atmosphere for open discussions and pleasant moments.

For all the Conference participants and accompanying people an optional extra Tourist Programme is planned on Wednesday, 13 October 2010: a boat tour along the Tagus riverbank in Lisbon with departure and arrival at Cais de Alcântara and past the Belém Tower. The tour, which starts at 19h, includes dinner on board and live music. The cost of this tour is 75 € for all participants and accompanying people, and is not included in the conference registration fee. The tour will occur only if at least 75 people have registered by 15 July, 2010. Otherwise, the event will be cancelled and the participants previously registered will be refunded of the corresponding amount.

 

On the last day of the conference (14th October 2010, 20h) a Conference Banquet will take place at the Casino Estoril, also with an entertainment programme (music-hall show), to provide all participants and accompanying people an opportunity for greater fellowship in a festive atmosphere. In the section "Registration and Fees" details about the inclusion of the Conference Banquet fee in the registration fee is provided.

Social Programme for Accompanying People

A specific programme for accompanying person is also available in order to provide recreation in one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe. The corresponding registration fee includes the invitation to the Conference Banquet and two tourist tours with lunch included: half-day sightseeing tour of Lisbon and half-day sightseeing tour of Sintra.

  • Tour around Lisbon, on Wednesday morning (13 October, 2010). Lunch is included. Departure driving through this remarkable city built nearly 2.500 years ago passing buildings dating from the 18th Century and along mosaic paved streets. The first stop will be high above the city at Lisbon Cathedral  - Sé de Lisboa - the oldest church in the city. Since the beginning of the construction of the cathedral, in the year 1147, the building has been modified several times and survived many earthquakes. It is nowadays a mix of different architectural styles. Next a small walking promenade through the winding streets of the Medieval borough of Alfama, who offers the picturesque flavor of an old popular residential area. Then the tour will proceed to the historic Lisbon's borough of Belém. Visit to the Monastery of the Jerónimos (Hieronymite Monks) built in 1502 and the finest example of the Mannueline style. The splendid church with chapels and the main-altar in Gothic-Renaissance style will be visited. Then drive along the River Tagus left bank stopping by the Tower of Belém, an 16th Century fortress and by the Monument to the Sea Discoveries.

                 

  • Tour around Sintra and Cape Roca, on Thursday morning (14 October, 2010). Lunch is included. Departure to Sintra located about 30 kilometers northwest of Lisbon. Sintra is a small delightful town in the forest covered Mountain of Sintra, immortalized as "Glorious Eden" by the World famous poet Lord Byron. There will be a visit to the Royal Palace of Sintra, a fabulous royal residence of many Portuguese Kings, dating from the 13/14th Centuries. Sintra is excellent for shopping souvenirs and handicraft, and there will also be free time.  Descending the mountain on to Cape Roca, the Western-most point of continental Europe, a stop will be made by the cliffs over the Atlantic Ocean. Then following the coastline the tour will pass by Guincho Beach. There will be a stop along the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Return to Lisbon via the Estoril coastal road.
